I don't understand if you can now boot or not. If you can get into Windows as normal,
run System File Checker. It may correct any corrupt system files that occurred. If
that doesn't help, or you can't boot post back.
Select START/RUN, type SFC (System File Checker) in the 'Open' box and press
enter. Follow the prompts and have your Win98 CD handy. If you haven't used this
utility before, click the 'Settings' button and be sure both options to check for
Changed and Deleted files are selected.
Repairing Internet Explorer might also help afterwards: Select START/RUN, type
MSINFO32 in the 'Open' box and press enter. From the 'TOOLS' menu select 'Internet
Explorer Repair Tool'. Then from the next menu select the repair option.
