I'm not sure exactly how to fix what is causing the protection error but I can tell
you how to restore your registry to it's state prior to this error occurring. At
boot hit F8 to get to the boot menu, select Command Prompt Only, at the prompt type
'Scanreg /restore' You will get a blue DOS box prompting you to select a registry
to restore from a previous date - pick one prior to your first encounter with the
protection error. restore & restart.
