If none of the other suggestions work, I found another entry that causes this error.
Use Run/msconfig. Then select the System.ini tab. Open the [boot] folder and look
for: shell=explorer.exe drivelam.exe . Click on the checkbox for this and remove
the checkmark. Now reboot to test. "drivelam.exe" was causing this error on my
PC. Thanks to all for your help in tracking this down.
