ie6 and windows 98 - no srchasst

hi
i'm new to this board and have a question re ie6
i've recently installed the most recent update and since i've done so i've been unable
to use the search assistant
in fact the bar at the bottom keeps flashing script at superspeed and won't stop
- i think it's flashing between "web site found" and "redirecting to ie.search.msn.com/srchasst/404.aspx"
on top of this everything is running pretty slow
i've tried reinstalling ie6 again and i've also tried to running the internet explorer
repair program but they haven't solved anything
anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?
