I would definitely check for any available chipset driver, or even BIOS updates, that relate to this type of problem. Here's something to try that may help. If it doesn't, you can always change the setting back. Boot into the BIOS/CMOS setup. Select 'PNP/PCI Configuration' (or something similar). There should be a setting PnP OS Installed = (or similar). Be sure the setting is 'NO', or change the setting to PnP OS Installed=NO. Save the change, exit the setup and restart. Now boot into Windows and remove the controller, reboot and see what Windows comes up with.
