Computer freezes up and restarts during gameplay for windows 98

Every time I play a game such as Starcraft or Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, my computer
seems to alwasy freeze or restarts for no reason. Either that or a bunch of illegal
operation messages will pop up. I don't get that. I've only had this computer for
about 3 years. We just got some new memory n i have at least rebooted my computer
2 times...could it be that my computer is just too old n is not properly working?
My friends say that i have too many programs on my desktop thinggy on the bottom
of the computer? I just wanna play my STARCRAFT!! O yea...My computer also freezes
while i browse on the internet....my computer is gay.
