(So also did the little yellow speaker image in the system tray! I've been messing with network connections...) I had used the original method without trouble, but since, I'd obtained TweakUI and so tried its less risky approach and selected the "none" option for the decorations. To no avail. The damn arrows were still there, even on restart. So, back to regedit, and in each of the two locations I saw that there were two entries, "IsNotShortcut" AND "IsShortcut", both of which has null text values (ie ""), so I deleted the "IsShortcut" entries, and this time, success. Immediate too. No restart (yet again, grr), just close RegEdit and they vanished...
