Truth to tell, it has been so long ago since I went through this that I can't remember
exactly what I did! Nowadays I stay clear of Safe Mode like the plague! When my startup
screen says I've got 30 seconds to chose whether I want to start in Safe Mode or
not, I have Normal chosen within seconds! I get a warning that the graphics choices
are wrong but the Display Control screen comes up straight away and I just have to
chose my screen resolution and I am away.
This doesn't help you right now though! All I can do is make some guesses and suggestionws
and hope that someone with a bit more knowledge can jump in. Basically, your Video
Card needs a "Driver", this is a software program that acts as an interface between
your computer CPU (the box) and your monitor. This is what has been lost and now
you need to get it back.
- Try going through the motions - start \ settings \ Control panel \ Display \ Settings
\ Advanced \ Adapter blah, blah as per the previous message, with your Windows CD
in the CD Drive. Let the system search for the driver itself and perhaps it will
find it on your setup disk.
- Didn't work? Then it's not on there then and you will have to go searching for
it. First of all you have to find out what Video driver you have in. Try going to
...
start \ settings \ Control panel \ System properties \ Device manager \
... under which you should have all the devices connected to your computer.Hopefully
you can recognise your video card on this and if so Double click on it and you should
get a popup with a Tab for Driver. What you really need to know though is WHAT IS
THE MAKE AND MODEL OF YOUR VIDEO DRIVER?
- If you know this already the next best bet is to search for a Driver on the Internet.
Load the make and model into Google or whatever plus "Driver download". With any
luck this should get you straight to the manufacturers Webpage where they will ussually
have drivers for you to download.
Hope this helps. My only other suggestion is to try booting your computer with your
Rescue Disks in the Floppie Drive. I'm not sure but this might bring your settings
back to what they were when you made the Rescue Disk.
Best of luck!
