Go into BIOS; under Power Management, there should be an option
to set Wake On LAN. Actually, this facility caused me a bit of a scare after I installed
an Ethernet card; I work nights and it was more than a little disconcerting to get
home at 6:15am to discover my PC was on! I thought at first there'd been a power
cut, as that had the same effect once power was restored, but my alarm clock was
still showing the right time. It wasn't until I remembered about WOL that I realised
why it was happening - when I first built my PC I didn't have a network card, so
WOL wasn't an issue then. I prefer it disabled, but to each his own.
As to turning a PC off in response to low network activity...well, I think
it can be done, but I'm not sure how. Try Google.
