Sounds like you're referring to the BIOS beep codes.

First, it's normal for your system to produce a single beep, during the boot process; it's not
your drive but part of the BIOS testing.

A series of beeps may indicate a problem, often displaying something on screen. If so, you might see Troubleshooting BIOS Beep Codes
