cannot see other computers

I have a network of 5 w98se machines, all the same (dell), all running tcp/ip, no
netbeui. A DSL router gives access to the internet and provides DHCP. One computer
is unable to see the other machines, although all others can see it. IE works OK
on the blind machine. IPCONFIG on that machine shows that it has an OK local lan
address, and that is verified because it can access the internet.
When I right click on network neighborhood and look at tcp/ip properties, the boxes
are deformed and will not accept an entry (e.g., the DNS tab shows a gray field for
address entry, not the white field of the other machines, and the separating address
periods are not in the correct location (they are on the bottom line of the entry
box, not in the box itself. The IP address box shows similar problems.
Can someone point me to the particular program that controls this box? It is obviously
damaged.
I have compared the registry against other computers in the HKLM ..... net, net services,
nettrans, ... areas and cannot see any differences (other than different numbers
for the keys .. like 0010 instead of 0006.)
I need to find the program that is controlling the network neighborhood box so I
can identify which routine is failing. I have "Depends" and other utils that can
help me, once I find the top program running the box.
Thanks
Curt
