It's more normal to set devices up this way:

If none of the hard drives are ATA66 or ATA100, or if only 1 of them is of these types:

    1st hard drive (the one you boot from): Master on IDE Channel 0
    2nd hard drive: Master on IDE Channel 1
    CD drive: Slave on IDE Channel 0
    CDRW drive: Slave on IDE Channel 1

If both hard drives are ATA66 or ATA100:

    1st hard drive (the one you boot from): Master on IDE Channel 0
    2nd hard drive: Slave on IDE Channel 0
    CDRW drive: Master on IDE Channel 1
    CD drive: Slave on IDE Channel 1

Make sure that your BIOS is set to auto-detect all 4 IDE devices.
