Not an expert on under the hood problems. You said the sound was built into the motherboard
and I don't have any knowledge on that type of sound setup except that its not the
most desirable, but could this possibly be a problem caused from vibration or moving
the CPU and something is not seated properly or a sound connection cable is loose???
Not showing up in the multimedia properties suggests there is a broken path to the
sound--either something is loose or the sound is fried...Just an inexperienced thought
