ok i did get my brother's computer sorta working (even
without netbeui)... now my dad got a new pc with Win XP.
and the problem is even worse.. the thing for the most
part won't work on my network (ohhh do i hate XP)
the computers all have:
Client for Microsoft networks
File & printer sharing for Microsoft networks
NetBEUI
IPX/SPX
(note XP has 2 extras)
NetBIOS (see note below)
QoS Packet Scheduler (not selected)
XP firewall is off
-------------------------
for simpleness when i say 'see' means the computer
name shows when browsing the network, nothing more
pc1 = a 486 w/ windows 3.11 for workgroups
pc2 = a pentium w/ win98
pc3 = pentium w/ win95
pc4 = celaron w/ win98
XP is of course the new one
here's what i'm getting:...
XP can 'see' and access pc1 (only if NetBIOS selected)
XP can also 'see' but not access pc4
pc1 can 'see' XP
pc2 .. nothing
pc3 can 'see' XP but not access
pc4 can 'see' XP but not access
of course 1,2,3,& 4 can all see & access each other
this thing is driving me crazy & i've basically given up...
any ideas?
-Thanks
Jay
