The two lines in that instruction won't work if the files mentioned aren't there. That's normal, because all we're trying to do is to save those files and also get rid of them as far as booting is concerned.

When you boot with that W98SE "custom" boot disk, the CD drive is r:. The CD drive will only be accessible if it's a standard IDE drive. If you have a weird drive that's connected to the parallel port or by means of USB, forget it. You need to use the manufacturer's DOS boot disk.
