Ah crap.. not Media Player 9!! I stopped updating Media Player at about version
6 or so. Apparently anything after that (or around version 8) you can't uninstall
because so many crucial Windows files are replaced and you can't go back to a prior
state. (Brilliant, huh?)
Anyway, that's not going to solve your problem. You just might have to re-install
Win'98 over top of your existing installation. I still suspect some sort of driver
is not working right or was changed/corrupted. (I'll also assume you've checked
for viruses, right?)
I don't think it can hurt anything by re-installing Windows (goodness knows, I've
done it enough times myself in the past). It's a real pain to go through, but I
can't see anything else you can try. That stupid Media Player update is probably
the culprit.
Hopefully, you have the Win'98 installation CD-ROM...
