Hi Erika...and Happy New Year!
The directories appear correct, from your explanation of the re-install. The occasional
Kernel32 error has me stumped though. This could indicated a hardware problem (maybe
memory). Lets eliminate two unnecessary files, and if that doesn't help, a Step-by-Step
boot may.
- Re-boot the system and hold the 'CTRL' key until the boot menu appears.
- Select the 'COMMAND PROMPT ONLY' option and press enter. You should next see
a C:\> prompt.
- From the C:\> prompt, type both of the below lines followed by pressing
the ENTER key.
REN AUTOEXEC.BAT AUTOEXEC.OLD (note the 2 spaces) -press enter-
REN CONFIG.SYS CONFIG.OLD (note the 2 spaces) -press enter-
- Now try re-booting the system again, with no other changes.
Try this if the problem persists. It may indicate where the problem is?
- Boot, press and hold the 'CTRL' key to enter the boot menu. Select
the 'STEP-BY-STEP CONFIRMATION' option and press enter.
- Answer 'Yes', until the problem occurs and make note of what is
loading.
