This is something we should have tried sooner. There are also two Msdos.sys related
links below. I doubt it, but the Bootlog may also help? The Msdos.sys file can be
edited in DOS, with the same procedure listed below for the Bootlog. However, the
file Attributes need to be changed, before and after the editing procedure. If these
options don't help, we can go there next.
  1. Restart your computer using a Win98 boot disk, select option 2 on the Startup menu and then press ENTER.
  2. At the A:\> prompt, type: SYS C: (note the space) and press ENTER. The following files will then be copied to the drive: * IO.SYS * MSDOS.SYS * COMMAND.COM
  3. If the procedure is successful, a 'System transferred' message appears. If it is not successful, check to be sure you are typing the correct drive letter for your Host Drive.
  4. Remove the boot disk and restart your system.
Windows Does Not Start Normally With Bootgui=1 in the Msdos.sys Msdos.sys File You may find a problem by reading the BOOTLOG.TXT file.
  1. Boot, then press and hold the 'CTRL' key to enter the boot menu.
  2. Select the option 'COMMAND PROMPT ONLY' and press enter.
  3. From the C:\> prompt, type EDIT BOOTLOG.TXT (note the space) and press enter.
  4. When the editor opens, use the up-down arrow keys to scroll through the log.
  5. If the last line in the Bootlog.txt file displays either a InitFailure or LoadFailure message for a driver, write down the driver's name and post the information here.
  6. Exit the Bootlog.txt file by pressing 'ALT'+'F', down arrow to 'EXIT' and press enter.
