Hello stranger!
There's been a new development since you left the building Erica. The forum has had
a batch of very similar problems recently. In most cases, the problem was a system
file being deleted (Shdocvw.dll). Give the following a try before we try anything
else.
You can check your system from within DOS, to see if this file exists in the \Windows\System
directory.
- Boot to a command prompt C:\>.
- From the C:\> prompt, type DIR C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCVW.* /S (note
the 2 spaces) and press enter.
The System directory will be searched, and a listing will appear if the file was
found. This file should have a .DLL extension. If the file is located with
an extension such as .BAK (or anything else), it can be renamed to recover
the system.
If the file is missing, then either of the below procedures should work.
Blank
Desktop or Illegal Operations
Recovering From a Failed Internet Explorer Upgrade
