in regards to a windows protection error that occuredd after mcafee antivirus version
5.16 was uninstalled, i tried numerous ways to run windows 98 without success.
the only way u can run windows is through safe mode when this error occurs. there
fore u are unable to use CD Rom support and load files from the win98 setup disk.
to normally run win98 with CD Rom support, boot the computer to the windows startup
menu (normal, logged, safe mode)
when here, select step by step confirmation. type Y to every question UNTIL u come
to load windows drivers.
here u will still type Y, but this will bring up a list of windows drivers that u
either want to load or not load. to each of the drivers type N. this will allow windows
to load normally, not in safe mode, but with out the normal windows drivers loading
aswell.
When windows is loaded, open the system file checker
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System INformation.
on the tools menu select System File Checker
run a scan to check if any files are corrupt, missing, damaged etc. system file checker
(SFC) may create a terminal error,(this programs has caused an invalid ....etc)
in SFC, replaced the files - SFC.exe(this is the system file checker) and the file
KRNL386.exe.
i found by replacing this files, my computer booted normally after shut down. i CANNOT
guarentee that this will work but it luckily worked for me. any question if i can
help, email black_adder_96@hotmail.com. happy computing and error free times.
