I have printed to a Win98 machine from XP and to XP from Win98 over a network, I
have run into many problems and suggestions but in the end my own trial and error
paid off! The complete solution that worked perfect for me (on top of sharing
the printer) was to install the printer drivers on the XP machine as if the printer
were connected to it so the XP machine could send the job straight to the printer
by going through the Win98 machine without it having to do all the software work
(queue, etc...) This worked the first time I tried it and still works today (a year
later). I still do my quality printing on the Win98 machine, even from the XP machine.
Another solution would be to transfer the file your printing to the Win98 machine
and then print it from there (if you have the same program to open it).
Hope I could help someone!
