I had similar problems on two seperate LAN's. Turned out that the computer NAMES on the Win98 computers (right click network neighborhood, select properties...identification...computer name) had spaces in them. While this doesn't seem to bother Win98, WinXP can't handle it. It might find the computer and even ask for a pasword, but would not respond in any way if one was entered. On one computer, the name was changed from Duron 1200 to duron12...problem solved! On the other, the name "pentium4 " had a space AFTER it that one could not see in the computer name window. On a hunch, I renamed it to "pentium4" (no space)...Problem solved! Give it a try. Good Luck!
