I had the matcli problem as well in Win 98. I had HP Instant support loaded and
I found that I had two options:
Start, Run, msconfig, startup, DESELECT HP INSTANT SUPPORT(matcli.exe was associated
with this item).
Or uninstall HP INSTANT SUPPORT as I learned from this forum: Start, settings, control
panel, add/remove programs, hp instant support (remove)
