re: Question about 'Dial-up Connection box pops up repeatedly

The problem is not due to the Dial-up Connection box, but to a program that is trying
to establish an internet connection. It might be spyware or another malicious program,
so be sure your computer is clean. Most likely, though, it is a program you installed
- one that uses the internet to operate and/or update automatically. As your desktop
loads, watch the icons as they appear next to your clock. Which one has NOT appeared
yet when the Dial-up box starts popping up? This program is the culprit. In my case,
I would have to close the Dial-up box dozens of times before the desktop would finish.
Then I noticed that when the pop ups began, all the icons had appeared next to the
clock except one - and that was Norton Anti-Virus 2004. So I went to the program's
options dialog and unchecked "enable auto-protect at start up (recommended)." No
further problems after that. The Dial-up box does not pop up even once now. Of course,
I now have to manually enable auto-protect (by right-clicking the Norton icon) after
connecting to the internet, but this is much less of an annoyance than the pop ups.
