I had the same problem for over a year until I decided to uninstall my software one at a time, and then reinstall it. The problem turned out to be the software for a Kodak digital camera. I subsequently downloaded the software directly from Kodak instead of using the disk supplied with the camera, and that fixed my shutdown problem.
