Thankfully this is a common problem unlike the last one I had, which might have been nearly one of a kind. The scanreg solution seems to work flawlessly and thanks goes to whoever discovered this solution. You don't need to do /restore, you can just type the scanreg, then you'll eventually have a choice of restoring a backup if it finds no errors on your registry.
