I found the (seemed fairly simple at the time) work- around for this in one of AOL's
own user support type forums. It's been a long time, but as long as you don't want
any AOL-specific services, there was a way to kill off AOL's own version of Netscape
after logging on. If you needed IE, I think you had to keep either AOL's munged-
up mess running, or maybe it was the real Netscape.
But I disliked IE from the moment it appeared, so have almost always only used it
for getting just those updates from MS that I thought that I specifically needed.
Mozilla is my current browser of choice. The AOL subscription was a freebie with
a system, an expensive chunk of PC hardware, or some kind of electronic entertainment
device, about four or five years ago, maybe somewhat less. During a fairly sizable
part of the time that I had that subscription (it was good for six months, I think),
I had a regular ISP as well.
