I doubt you have a video driver problem, since they aren't loaded at the time the 
Gateway logo appears. This could be the video card (device) or even monitor (try 
substituting if possible).

Maybe the video resolution was changed by software, to something the monitor can't 
handle. Give this a try, it can't hurt anything.
  • Boot while holding the CTRL (or F8) key to enter the boot menu.
  • Select the COMMAND PROMPT ONLY option and press enter.
  • From the C:\> prompt, type SCANREG /RESTORE and press enter.
  • When the restore screen appears, select a backup dated before this problem occurred and then restart the system. (A properly working registry has the word 'Started' next to the date)
