This could be the video card (device) or even monitor (try substituting if possible). Maybe the video resolution was changed by software, to something the monitor can't handle. Give this a try, it can't hurt anything. Boot while holding the CTRL (or F8) key to enter the boot menu. Select the COMMAND PROMPT ONLY option and press enter. From the C:\> prompt, type SCANREG /RESTORE and press enter. When the restore screen appears, select a backup dated before this problem occurred and then restart the system.
