As soon as this happens go to the 'windows\sysbckup' directory look for the five
or more or less 'rbxxx.cab' files there and restore one of the more recent ones
following these main steps.
1. Create a directory in the 'windows' directory say called 'rb5'
2. Unzip the 'rbxxx.cab' file of your choice
to the 'rb5' directory
3. In explorer open the 'rb5' directory select all the
files and change the file attributes to 'archive' only
So that some are not 'hidden' and/or 'readonly'.
4. Go into 'regedit' and backup your current registry as you may want it back.
5. Now restart in MSDOS mode and 'cd' to the windows directory then change the attributes
of
sys.ini, user.dat and system.dat files by using the 'attrib' command as in: attrib
-h -r user.dat
6. Now you can copy all the files in the 'rb5' directory (there should be four: the
three mentioned and the file 'win.ini') since you are still in the 'windows' directory
just use 'copy rb5' that should copy all the files to your current directory which
is 'windows'.
7. Lastly restart the computer it's advisable to start up in 'safe mode' first then
exit and start up in normal mode.
Hope that the above steps may solve the problem if not you will just have to restore
the saved registry and restart your computer and find some other method.
