This is a bit dated given the dates of the discussion... but I wish to give CCN a
great big THANK YOU! for the information provided. I just had the same problem...
paid a computer expert to fix it the first time (in 2003, took him quite a bit of
time to figure out it was iexplore) but I'd forgotten that iexplore was the fix....
Yes, it happened again about 18 months later (last weekend), and I've restored explorer,
all other seemingly corrupt files (setupx.dll?), but to no avail. The fix given
by CCN did it for me. PC (win98SE) now up and running... thanks CCN! by the way,
in my case, did not have internet connection, but ran ie6setup from within winfile,
it asked me if I really wanted to load an older version of Iexplore, and I said yes....
then the rest worked for me. Good luck to anyone else lucky enough to find this
message among all the advice on the web.... none of the other 50 suggestions I tried
helped.
