I just found out that BIOS changes can cause this, yes. Using an M571 PCChips motherboard,
I had set my video memory from 1m to 4m in an attempt to get a new PCI video card
installed. I then removed the PCI card and drivers and re-applied the onboard video
drivers and began getting Windows Protection Errors and other display anomalies.
Changing the video memory back to 1m corrected this.
