I bought an IBM Aptiva. My 1st "real" computer. It came installed with WIN98. I only had "problems" with WIN98 after I began internet access. Most likely from malicious code being download or a virus. After replacing the hard drive 3 years ago, I have never, ever had a crash (freeze yes, crash no) or have had to reinstall WIN98. After getting the latest downloads and patches from Microsoft.com, my box is running fine, save for a few minor problems. I day traded stocks for a living for 2 years. I have numerous trading platforms and software on my box. I can open about 10 windows w/o any serious problems or errors. IE 6.0 was a great help too. I've used XP and I do NOT like it, period. Your're mistaken about "go back" with WinXP. My version of WIN98 is OEM, and on it is a program called "configsafe". That program is the SAME as "go back" and preceded it, so just because XP has that prog, does not make it "better". Every O/S will have problems. There is no such thing as a "problem free" computer. It's just that some O/S are more stable than others. Many peeps, including me, are sorry to see WIN98 fade away, as the new platforms from MS are based from it. And XP is not the "bomb" have you used another O/S from Microsoft, such as Win2000, 2000 Pro, etc?
