I won't say it's easy, but all you have to do, it seems, is install the IPX/SPX protocol
and enable Netbios. Forget about the Static IP address and all that crap. (I have
a DHCP server built onto my router.) Forget about the Internet Connection Sharing
too (unless you need it. I spent ALL DAY working on this problem and I tried every
conceivable option. Then, once I got it to work, I went backwards to see what I
could keep and what I could do without.
Somebody mentioned they "weren't even able to ping there own computer". Stated it
was a problem with the firewall. You *shouldn't* be able to ping your own computer.
I was able to turn on the firewall in windows AND the firewall on my router. I
still got the Windows 98SE and XP computers to see each other. I got rid of UdNP
or whatever. Still worked. Got rid of the user somebody here suggested I create.
Still worked. Matter of fact the only thing I did was install the Netware IPX drivers
and enable Netbios in XP and I installed Netbui and IPX in Windows 98. My network
is faster than I could have ever dreamed.
Hope this helps somebody.
