I too am having a problem simular to yours on Windows 98 SE. When i log in, (Double)
click on Internet Explorer, or My Computer. I End up with the Error. When i click
on 'Details>>' i end up with this:
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module "unknown" at 0000:10001290.

Please help me, I've searched high and i've search low, and i've found nothing but
dead ends. i've tried everything but tossing my computer out the window or taking
a hammer to it...Only because that would kill my computer rather than fix it...
