I have a computer with Windows 98se and a Nvidia GForce FX 5700 Ultra Video Card. I recently upgraded the video drivers from Version 61.76 to 71.84. See "http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_71.84.html". When I rebooted my computer, it hung at the desktop for about 20 seconds, then continued OK. I rebooted again and when it hung I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL and noticed the "ddhelp" process was not responding. I removed the 71.84 video drivers and reinstalled the 61.76 ones and now everything works fine. See "http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_61.76.html". Bottom line... since "ddhelp" is a required part of DirectX, check your video drivers or contact your video card manufacture. I hope this helps.
