Thanks to everyone that posted answers. I'm almost there. Have a mixture of Win98
SE and WinXP Pro.
I have one WinXP Pro and one Win98 SE computer that no other computer can share a
folder on, even though all the computers (even the 2 hold-outs) can share folders
on the other 9 machines no matter what the operating system.
The machines that will not share can be seen in Network Places/Neighborhood but when
I try to map a drive or add a network place I get the message:
\\[computername] is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource (etc., etc.). The network path was not found.
I also can not ping the two computers by IP Address even though they are on the same
hub as the machines that will share. (Times out.)
The commands net view \\[IP Address] and net view \\[computer name] give the error:
System error 53 has occurred
The network path was not found
They are all in the same Workgroup
I am running NetBIOS over TCP/IP
We use non-blank passwords to login to computers but use blank passwords for the
share folders.
IP Address is assigned by DHCP server/router
I enabled File and Printer Sharing
I unchecked Qos Packet Scheduler
Share Names have less than 8 characters
I have tried to map drives, didn't work
I have disabled all Norton firewalls and anti-virus
I have disabled TCP/IP Packet Filtering
I have not tried LMHOSTS or messed with the Registry.
Any ideas ? Thanks, Chuck
