if you don't understand what extensions are...
they are the last letters after the period in a file name.
Usually there are three letters.
Some computers are set to just show icons...
to see the extensions
go to my computer
view
details
if the extension still isn't there go to
folder options
view tab
uncheck "hide file extensions for known types"
click ok
you are back in "my computer"
post what the last 3 letters are after the period.
a list online with common files extensions is at this location

you may have uninstalled the program you used to save the file and that is why it
isn't opening automatically.
