IE6 Address Bar History Disappears

I like using the down arrow on the IE address bar to pick the sites I visit regularly.
But twice recently they have gone away. The whole pane is blank. But they are
still in the system somewhere, because one will show up if I start typing it in the
address bar. I have gone nowhere near the Delete History button. What causes this?
