uninstall and reinstall Windows 98

I have a Gateway desktop, built in 1998. We now have a trojan virus (Spyware.Smitfraud)
that has infected the internet explorer. I believe it has caused problems in the
operating system because I can't get it to defragment or shut down properly. (And
yes I do have an up to date virus scan on it now.)
Can someone give me exact instructions as to how to uninstall the operating system
and clean the hard drive off and then reinstall Windows 98. I have the Windows 98
disk, the boot disk and all the disks that came with the computer when we bought
it knew. It doesn't have a lot of space and can't run Windows 2000 or XP.
I am using another computer now but don't want to get rid of the Gateway.
Thanks for your help.
