|When you highlight something and copy it [ctrl-C] to paste it later [ctrl-V],
|how can you erase that copied thing from the computer's memory and files FOREVER?

Windows Clipboard is a buffer in RAM.
If you don't use a clipboard stacker (e.g., Yankee Clipper),
there is only 1 item stored and it disappears
as soon as you clip another item or you shut down your box.[1]
The paranoid (like you) need to use a WIPE utility (from Real DOS)
to blast C:\WINDOWS\WIN386.SWP.
|I know Windows 98SE likes to squirrel away all info
|into some file somewhere (like windows/recent !),
|so I want to erase all reference to the copied item.
|
How about never creating them in the first place?
I think \WINDOWS\RECENT is the most useless thing ever.

|Also - which Windows files
|keep track of one's keyboard and Internet and Word Processor activities.

Spybot S&D can clear this (Microsoft) stuff.
If you're not running Spybot, WHY NOT?
Good apps contain an option to clear their lists.
(e.g., Jan Goyvaerts' freeware EditPad Lite--a wonderful replacement for M$ Notepad.)
[1]If you have a large amount of data on the clipboard that you don't need any more,
mark a single letter and copy it.
This will free up all that RAM for re-use.
