Question about 'When I choose "Shut Down" from the Start Menu, my computer restarts instead of shutting down'

When I go to shut down I do not get the option to "standby"
About a week ago I had alot of problems with my screen coming back on after going
into standby mode.
Then a box appeared and asked me if I wanted to delete the standby option, and I
did. Now I would like to have it back. any ideas???john
