Can't draw line from right to left

This is weird - Using the mouse pointer, I can't draw horizontal lines in MS-Word, or a non MS flow chart progarm from right to left - they just won't appear! If I draw it less than perfectly horizontal, it's ok, but if I drag the left end up as I draw the line, to bring it perfectly horizontal, it disappears (and re-appears if I drag it too high). I don't know how long this has been a problem, I needed to use my flow chart program which was uninstalled some time ago, so I restalled it today, when I tried to draw a line, right to left, it would not show. I thought it was a problem in the flow chart program, but when I tried in in MS Word, I had the same problem, I could draw lines left to right , but not right to left. It's not the mouse, the pointer works and I tried two others. Any ideas?
