|Using the mouse pointer, I can't draw horizontal lines

Doesn't sound like it works to me.

If it happened within the last 5 days (from Real DOS):
SCANREG  /RESTORE

Otherwise, delete the mouse driver in Control Panel and restart Windoze.
It will re-discover the mouse and ask for the driver disk
(probably your Windows CD).
