Understood. We've done all we can with the **media**.
Now we're going to try to mess with the DRIVE.
If cleaning the lens doesn't work, the most likely causes of failure are
1) the optics alignment is off
2) the Laser LED is shot.
Beyond first-eschelon maintenance (cleaning),
it doesn't pay to try to fix one of these.
Nowadays they are just about giving away CD drives.
