Media Player loads extremely slow

After I first turn on my computer, Windows Media Player takes a very long time to
open a video file. Sometimes it takes between 15 to 20 minutes before it will start
playing the video. After that it seems to work fine and will open videos normally.
But Media Player is just deathly SLOW to start up after I boot up the computer.
I have re-loaded Windows and the Media Player and done all sorts of scans and fixes
but I can't seem to track down the problem. Is it a video card or a video driver
issue?
