If you're having problems with SCANDISK, run it in DOS and then Windows.
  • Boot the system while holding the CTRL key, to enter the boot menu.
  • Select the COMMAND PROMPT ONLY option and press enter.
  • At the C:\> prompt, type SCANDISK and press enter.
When this is complete, boot the system into Safe Mode and run SCANDISK again from within Windows (holding the SHIFT key down during boot will normally start the system in Safe Mode). When SCANDISK is finished and while in Safe Mode, run the disk defragmenter.
