This is a simple approach that will eliminate two unnecessary files from causing the problem. These files are not needed for proper Win98 operation. Once the files have been determined the cause, they can then be edited and renamed again. Re-boot the system and hold the CTRL key until the boot menu appears. Select the COMMAND PROMPT ONLY option and press enter. From the C:\> prompt, type both of the below lines followed by pressing the ENTER key. REN AUTOEXEC.BAT AUTOEXEC.OLD (note the 2 spaces) -press enter- REN CONFIG.SYS CONFIG.OLD (note the 2 spaces) -press enter- Now try re-booting the system again, with no other changes.
