Years ago I had a sudden effect where blue would not show up on my monitor, just
red and green. That was caused by my carelessness. Instead of screwing in the monitor's
plug into the VGA card I had simply stuck it in. At some point I moved the computer
or the monitor and pulled on it slightly and it became slightly dislodged. I pushed
the plug in securely and the color became right.
Unfortunately I did something right after that that I knew I shouldn't. I decided
to get it in tight and I pulled the plug out of the VGA card--with the computer running.
That immediately produced an inductive arc that destroyed the monitor. Fortunately
it did not damage the computer or the VGA card. I walked 4 blocks to my neighborhood
store and got a nice used monitor for $60.
But the color weirdness Mike describes does not fit the color weirdness
I had. I guess he needs the card or the monitor replaced and should start by borrowing
an old small monitor and trying that first.
I did once see someone have the same exact symptoms as I had. That was on the Annoyances
Win95 forum and I was able to tell him to shut off the computer and screw in the
plug.
