I think I know what's going on and maybe someone else will know how to fix it.

Your Firefox 'profile' contains all your plug ins and extensions. It's stored in
a different folder from the FF program so that when you install a new version the
settings remain intact.

The reason that you are unable to go back to your prior version is that once v. 1.5
is installed it corrupts your profile unlike previous new versions.

This happened to me and I had to have help in re-installing v. 1.0.7 from a cloned
backup on my slave drive.

In addition many of the extensions don't work with the v. 1.5.

Good luck. Maybe someone will come along with a solution.
