Adjusting OS for changed MB

Windows doesn't like having as many devices drivers as are related to a MB swap all changed at once. The W9X OS's are more flexible in one way -- they will try to run using multiple drivers and sometimes get away with it. WinNT OS's won't do that, however the two newer ones come with a "Repair" install procedure that is very good at setting things into proper order.

The best procedure to follow with a Win9X MB swap is to perform wholesale Device Removals just at the end of the last run with the old hardware, in Device Manager, take out all devices related to the MB. Shut down immediately afterward, and when the new devices show up, there are not going to be two of the same kind of device to confuse the OS.

Device Manager is on the tab in the Control Panel/ System dialog boxes. You can differentiate between the new and old devices by the dates on the drivers, and remove the old ones now.
